South African Holidays
South Africa: a country of great contrasts. Black and white. Rich and poor. Isolated villages and crowded cities. Mountains and beaches, forests and desert. The Big Five. Extreme sports and family holidays. These are just some of the factors that make it an ideal holiday destination because there is literally something for everyone.
The country that gave the world Nelson Mandela has in the space of a generation transformed itself from a bastion of institutionalised racism to having one of world's most progressive constitutions. Whilst still bearing the scars of Apartheid, the Rainbow Nation is now a truly integrated society and a full member of the international community. You can retrace some of South Africa's turbulent past by taking a tour of Robben Island, where Mandela was incarcerated for so many years. Or tour some of the battlefields where so much blood was spilled in the Angle Boer War or the tribal frontier wars.
If it's wildlife you're after there are any number of safari game parks where you can view the Big Five plus a myriad of other plant and animal species that are every bit as interesting. There is an abundance of opportunities for camping, hiking, fishing and even big game hunting. Or you could get really up close and personal with Great White shark diving a short drive from Cape Town.
There are plenty of other adrenalin-inducing activities to indulge in, from bungee jumping to paragliding to extreme sports events like the annual Comrades and Two Oceans marathons or the Cape Classic mountainbike race. If you prefer to be a spectator, you can watch some of the best cricket, rugby and football players in the world pit their skills against each other in a multitude of annual and one-off events and tours.
Or you could simply kick back and soak up some of the country's glorious scenery. Miles of unspoilt golden beaches, forest, mountains and bushveld are just some of the options that await you, and South Africa's temperate climate means you'll be able to work on your tan at the same time!
Yes, South Africa has something for everyone - come and see for yourself!
